We booked a one night stay for a wedding in the local area. Our day was a bit of a squeeze travelling to check in and get to the wedding. I spoke to Laura before arriving and she was absolutely amazing helping us to get checked in early so we could head straight off to enjoy the wedding. Laura even helped us to book a taxi upon arrival! We can’t thank her enough for all her help. Our room was lovely and clean, very spacious with a nice bathroom.

The location was perfect for the events we were attending at the weekend.
The bed was very comfortable, even though it was a large double and we had requested twin beds.

Selby is a nice town with a mix of amenities, there are historical places to visit and they have a gym, bowling and a canal which is very nice to walk beside. It is also within driving distance of York, Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales, I would recommend a trip there if you are in North Yorkshire

Had great tapas at Basco’s, and the next morning a wonderful breakfast at the Barco Lounge so even though the Bay Horse didn’t offer breakfast there is plenty of choice of excellent eateries within walking distance. Dog friendly too at the Barco Lounge, not sure about Bascos. Train station is only a 5 minute walk from the Bay Horse plus cheap car parking outside the pub. Selby is a lovely, lively little town.

Selby is an old Market town with market day on a Monday.
Selby is an old Market town with market day on a Monday. Parking is widely available and you get two hours for free in several places but longer stays are not easy to find in a central spot. Many of the shops are closing down or turning over really quickly and it has more than its share of charity shops. There’s several really nice (and reasonably priced) eateries as well as cafes and bakeries to suit all budgets. But selby is neither a place for shopping nor the hot spot for a good night out. The charm of Selby Abbey with its extensive history and interesting architecture are the most interesting and worthwhile aspect of this small town, but once you’ve done that, you’ve pretty much seen what the town has to offer. A two night stay is probably too much, unless you’re visiting with friends/family.

The Abbey was interesting. Walked along the canal and river.
The Abbey was interesting. Walked along the canal and river. One of our party was a railway enthusiast and enjoyed the station and the swing bridges. Selby is a convenient stepping off point for longer journeys. The local people were friendly and helpful.

Nice small town used as a base for visiting local area.
Nice small town used as a base for visiting local area. A good selection of shops, pubs and cafes available, all within a short walking distance of each other. Lovely Abbey in town. People friendly. Traffic snarled up in the big car park behind main street with its one way system, as well as the streets surrounding on Sat lunchtime period.
Despite being outside of Selby centre, this hotel is perfectly accessible on foot. A 30 minute walk will get you to the quiet business park location.
Set up very similar to your usual premier inn, the reception has been separated from the restaurant area.
I found the staff to be very warm and friendly, the entire property was clean and the rooms welcoming.
Comfortable bed, smart TV and en-suite with bath and shower was a nice finish.
Attached restaraunt was great quality for the price paid. The dough ball starter is huge!
The hotel was the heart of the town and although busy the rooms were far enough away from the bar area to be quiet. All of the staff were very helpful and on the ball. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well priced.we took our two young children with us,7 and 4 and they were welcomed in the bar area and did not feel out of place. The lady who took our breakfast order was very prompt and welcoming. Good hospitality staff are hard to find and even harder to keep but this one star hotel was a great place to stay.
Room only basis. Great location. Facilities and assortment of sachets/milk/coffee to enable me to have a few drinks.
Room comfortable and sufficient for me as a long traveler. Nice clean room and en suitebathroom.
Did have a bit of trouble finding it due to the online map I used giving the location wrongly. Location was great for my visit in the evening to see a show at Selby Town Hall. Minutes away from Selby station too so also ideal.
The hosts were very approachable. The garden was very secure so that our dog spent most of his time, when not travelling around other parts of Yorkshire, in the garden playing and socialising with the hosts two dogs through the fence. We especially liked the fact that there were 2 sofas in the lounge, the same as in our own home, and that they were fabric covered not over slippery leather that we've come across in other properties.
The location was easy enough to find using sat nav despite being in a remote area. The room was modern, clean, and well stocked. We were welcomed by our host who was lovely, she gave us a tour and advised us about the comings and goings into the grounds. There was ample breakfast options available and it was help yourself. Sounds like a silly comment but the shower pressure and temperature was spot on too.
The rooms were good size, clean and nice beddings. Everything you'll need in a hotel room. Effective heating, although I think it was centrally controlled and I couldn't switch it off when I needed to. Quiet neighborhood, convenient if you want to visit York and Leeds. But be aware if you are using public transport, buses are less frequent to and from Leeds.
Restaurant and bar with great food menu.
Everything except could have done with a stair gate. In the bathroom it would have been helpful to have had something to hold onto while getting in and out of the shower which was over the bath. We really loved the welcome pack left by the owner. Convenient for all areas in and around Selby. We hope to use this super wee cottage again. Xx
Absolutely brilliant hotel. The staff we spoke to were great. The bar is excellent and very cheap compared to what I expected for the area. The location of the hotel is perfect for anyone looking to go out for food and drinks. Almost in the centre of the town. The balcony next door to the rooms is amazing when the sun is shining.
This place has a communal kitchen and lounge with a big fridge/freezer, 2 ovens and a hob for guests. A great improvement on most cheap hotel facilities. They even had an area I could store my bike, This place is a good option if you are in this area. Selby is quite an attractive town, but unexciting.
The hosts were friendly when I called in advance and the house was everything we needed. They even popped the heating on for us before we arrived which was lovely! Would definitely recommend! It was also close to get to Selby to get a train to York.
The Good point is if u have a car…that’s a great deal. Because the hotels in York were too expensive…so this one is good value for money and like 30 mins drive from York. No need to spend 3 times the price and at York if just for one night.
Stayed with 3 year old grandson who loved the indoor play area which was free to hotel guests.ample car parking. Thank you for the extra milk from reception.
