Visiting daughter at the university. Always love visiting Winchester. Found some wonderful walks this time along the river and also a good walk up Saint Catherine's Hill with views all across Winchester and further afield. Wonderful pubs and vibrant atmosphere.

We have grown to love Hampshire so much as the people there...
We have grown to love Hampshire so much as the people there seem the most lovely wherever we go. We went to the Jane Austin House and I said this to a lovely man who was one of the curators and he said 'that is Hampshire people and that is why we moved here'. Winchester itself is beautiful not just the Cathedral or Great Hall or the Mill but spending an hour or so sitting outside one of the many establishments watching the world (and their dogs - we've never been anywhere where there were so many dogs and we argued which we should get). We both work hard but upon arrival we just completely relaxed. Other recommendations the Bangkok Bistrot restaurant in Jewry Street (we also saw the Grayson Perry Exhibit in the same Road), the Sunday morning antiques and retro and other market - I bought two wonderful things I will cherish, but above all the happiness everyone exuded, we will be back. This trip was short but there is so much to see (and also so many of my favourite shops, more than actually accessible in where I live in Kensington but in Winchester all in the high street - the White Company, Hobbs x 20!)
As you can tell we fell in love with Winchester!!

Winchester is a delightful place to visit.
Winchester is a delightful place to visit. It blends the old with the new extremely well. The cathedral has to be seen inside. A guided tour is available which is essential to appreciate fully the cathedral's remarkable history.
Further attractions are the wide range of excellent restaurants and pubs, museums and historic buildings.

Lovely historical sites and museums.
Lovely historical sites and museums. A walk along the trail was refreshing and seeing Winchester from Saint Catherine's Hill and lunch at the Handle Bar cafe at Saint Catherine's Hill was good value for money, lovely fresh panini's and friendly staff, not to mention the cake.
Plenty of eateries on an evening and quaint streets.
Very friendly staff and a great breakfast. Central location makes it ideal for exploring Winchester, only 10 minutes walk to the main high street for shops and restaurants. The Black Hole was good value for money compared to other chain hotels and they stored my bike in a secure location which was important for me. Also liked the way they had incorporated old prison doors in to the design of the rooms. I would highly recommend a stay here....
The room was a nice size. I had a bathroom with a bathtub, which is often not the case. About a 10 min walk from the train station, with a bit of uphill when returning to the station, but all straightforward. My room was quiet. Checkin was quick and easy and it was a 5 min walk to the Main Street and good restaurant options. I did not try the hotel’s restaurant.
We booked this hotel due to the location as we wanted to stay in the centre of Winchester. The room was roomy and comfortable but the shower was unreliable. No air con in the room. The hotel has a great garden/terrace just outside the bar area were you could sit and have a drink. The hotel does have a small car park but on a first come first serve basis.
The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The spa facilities were really good for relaxing, and not busy when I went. The location is really good, just a short walk into town 10-15 minutes. Convenient car parking in council car park in front of the hotel, as the hotel parking was full during our stay.
Location to Winchester city centre & surrounding attractions. Hotel accommodation themed throughout & very unique/quirky. Staff very attentive & room clean & well stocked with branded luxuries to make stay even more enjoyable 😉 ..outside seating area adjacent to room fab for night time drinks.
Just a B is wonderfully located to explore Winchester, very easy to get to the train station and centre of town. The room was very comfortable, nicely stocked and setup as an ideal base to come back to. Highly recommended for anyone that needs a hub to visit Winchester from.
Location is unsurpassed for Winchester. You really are in the centre of everything, minutes from the shop and cathedral, as well as the walking paths and St Catherine's Hill. The hotel is precisely what you would expect, with all the little luxuries. Highly recommend.
This is a perfect location for exploring the historic center of Winchester and its cathedral. Esme was the perfect host. She went above and beyond to help us with a special emergency need. We appreciate her practical help and caring spirit.
The view of Winchester Cathedral from the picture window in the room is outstanding. The hotel isn’t overlooked, it’s right in the centre of things, with lovely staff and is amazingly good value for money in an expensive town like Winchester.
Lovely hotel. Loved the roof terrace. Shame we were only there 1 night. Pub next door was great. Staff very friendly and helpful, and lovely tasty breakfast provided. Parking is easy 2 min walk away. (Free overnight)
